Design for Main Gate

As the final resting place of Mahatma Gandhi, the gate design for Rajghat draws inspiration from symbols closely tied to his identity and philosophy. The spinning wheel (charkha), a powerful emblem of self-reliance and simplicity, informed the overall form and structure of the gate. To reflect Gandhiji’s spirit of humility and welcome, the gate handles were shaped as two folded hands—symbolizing a traditional 'namaste' to greet every visitor. A see-through design was deliberately chosen to avoid creating a visual barrier. Instead, the gate becomes a respectful design element—blending into the landscape without obstructing the sanctity within.
